Jan Jackson Hi end Lo Fi. A star-spangled banger. Wonderfully jangly, upbeat, and downright gorgeous. In summery; sumptuous. About the moon, I could wax, lyrical. Loved the video, too. Favorite track: Moon Ritual.

about

Moon Ritual was recorded by Stefan Neville (Pumice), with help from Henis' band, bassist Ducklingmonster (The Futurians) and drummer Jade Farley (Pumice, The Gladeyes). The song dials down the distortion found on Accidental Punk, offering a contemplative track full of longing and deep visual imagery.

"The song alludes to a previous summer moon ritual" says Henis, "where we listened to bells, let our minds wander, and travelled to places we had never been before."

The video was directed Karen Reis, who had devised the visual accompaniment for Moon Ritual over the course of 9 months. Reis used a combination of archival footage, digital recordings of the November 2021 lunar eclipse and more recent footage of N. T. Honey mucking around on a local beach and in a garden, on Super 8 film.

It will come as no surprise to folks who follow the lunar calendar that the release of the track and video coincides with the full moon. Henis explains "Karen gave us expert advice on best time of the month to release the single - full moons are the energy-rich climax of the waxing moon, a motif that figures and shifts throughout the video."
